Acharavi, Corfu GREECE - Guide to Acharavi holidays
Acharavi is situated on the northern tip of the Ionian Island of Corfu (Kerkyra).  It has long since established itself as one of the top resorts on the North of Corfu and is particularly suited to couples and families.  Around 40km from the airport, it takes about an hour to get into Acharavi.  The scenery on the journey is stunning as you pass through the mountains and quaint old Greek villages. Acharavi resort comprises a main road with about 8 roads all leading to the sand and shingle beach.  The beach is particularly family-friendly as the water is shallow for about 50 metres into the sea.  The main road and beach-front are littered with bars, restaurants, gift shops and supermarkets.

There is a roundabout in the centre of Acharavi called “The Pump” because this is where the village pump used to be and where the Pumphouse restaurant is today.  A road leads from the roundabout into the old village of Acharavi.
This is often missed but well worth a stroll as there are more bars and restaurants and older more traditional buildings. Such is the popularity of Acharavi that many people have been returning to the resort for years and years and have witnessed it change from a small village to what it is today.  Some people have even moved here permanently to live in and around Acharavi village...

Holidays in Acharavi - Corfu, GREECE
On the north coast of the island of Corfu, near Kassiopi in an extensive area of lush vegetation and a scenic 40km journey from Corfu airport through mountainous landscape and old quaint Greek villages. Hills rise up from the lush plain of Acharavi and peak at Mount Pantokrater, one of the highest mountains on Corfu. It all makes a pleasing combination of beach, hills and mountains. Acharavi is popular with those seeking a relatively uncomplicated resort where they can take it easy and relax. It is an attractive resort for families and couples being neither quiet backwater nor overdeveloped. The Roman baths and the more traditional parts of old Acharavi village are on and around the main street parallel to the sea from where  narrow lanes make the short distance to the beach.
There is a wide range of relaxing and moderately priced accommodation from individual studios to luxury hotels and villas with exclusive swimming pools. This gently expanding resort now offers several good tavernas, bars and restaurants and a sufficiently busy nightlife should you wish to have a lively night. The Acharavi area has an abundance of other good beaches like the popular  neighbouring Corfu beach resorts of Roda and Almyros, the latter tending to be the local’s choice, generally a touch more tranquil and with an unofficial nudist beach.
These Corfu resorts to the west and east of the town offer variety within short distances to complement an Acharavi holiday.  If the award-winning waters of Acharavi beach get a little tame, a visit can be made to a local water park attraction “Hydropolis” found as you leave the town for Kasiopi. Or you may be enticed by good water sport opportunities. Acharavi is well-liked by snorkelers who have many attractive areas to explore, and there are diving schools for those who wish to go a little deeper. Boats can be hired to view Acharavi and the dramatic Corfu coast from the sea. Acharavi is surrounded by other attractions like the island of Erikoussa.  An enticing excursion is Corfu town itself with its mixture of old and new, tourist present and traditional past, with ample bar life from small local bars to livelier younger options.
Information about Acharavi beach
Acharavi beach is very safe as it is far enough from the public road and the sea is shallow with crystal clear water and a seabed without urchins; all this make it ideal for families with small children. However, you are advised to be careful enough in the afternoon, when the sea gets eventually wavy and may prove somehow dangerous for small children. There is also a water park at the beach of Acharavi. The fans of diving will also find a small diving center, suitable both for experts and beginners in the sport. Access from the capital (Corfu, 37 kilometers far away) is possible by public buses (the green ones) running frequently, as well as by rented or private cars and motorbikes. Local taxis are also available in the village. The beach is found off the public road; you will reach it via the short deviation. Over the last few years Acharavi has expanded greatly, but its size hasn't at all detracted from its relaxing, welcoming atmosphere.  By day the sizeable sandy/shingle beach may be the place to be, but in the evening most of Acharavi's nightlife is to be found in the village centre 300m inland.  Or why not stroll westwards along the beach as the sun sets, into neighbouring Roda, a 15/20 minute walk away.  Acharavi is very family-friendly and also well-suited to couples and anyone seeking a peaceful, relaxing holiday
Around Acharavi resort
Acharavi is quite a large resort but small enough to explore on foot.  However, getting around is made easy by using a number of options:  Walking, hiring cycles,  mopeds, motorbikes and cars or the local bus service which operates regular services to surrounding resorts and the fabulous Island capital - Corfu Town.  Observe some of the locals using their own mode of transport - donkeys !  Another reason why Corfu and Acharavi have so much character.
A less physical way of getting around Acharavi is to hire a car.  Most hire companies provide a map free of charge.  Corfu island is only around 60km long and 27km at it’s widest point.  This means you are never far from the sea and the scenery is stunning.  Take a break from driving to stop at one of the many village bars and tavernas you will find on your travels.  Beware - drink driving is not tolerated and the legal limit for alcohol is actually less in Greece than in some other countries.  Do check the small-print and ask what is covered by the insurance.  No hire company covers damage to the underside of the cars, the wheels, tyres or windscreen.
Walking is a popular pastime in Acharavi.  Just a few metres to the south of the main road is mountain range leading to the peak of the highest point on Corfu—Mount Pantakratoras.  There are many walks and a detailed itinerary is included in a book entitled “Corfu Walks”. From the peak of Mount Pantokratoras the view is stunning.  As well as the coast of Albania it is sometimes possible to see Italy on a clear day !
Acharavi Hydropolis waterpark
If you are looking for a fun day out with children or maybe just as a couple, water parks are always a good choice in the warm summer weather in corfu. Here at Hydropolis you have a choice of fun water rides as well as sports facilities, such as tennis, beach volley ball, aquafit and water games. You can also learn how to scuba dive here. There is a small zoo with ducks, geese, ostriches, wild fowl, peacocks and rabbits. Children are made welcome and there are many child facilities, including a children’s pool and water slide.
How to get to the Hydropolis water park:
Follow the main coastal road from Corfu town through Ipsos into the North East of Corfu island. The roads here are narrow and windy, mirrors are placed on the worst bends to help you. Pass Kassiopi, this is on your right, carry straight on following the signs to Acharavi. The roads start to widen and have less bends. As you near Acharavi you will see signs for the Hydropolis Water Park, there is plenty of warning. The water park is on your right the same side as the sea. Turn down through the main gates, follow the road down to a large car park at the bottom.
Getting to Acharavi - Corfu
Follow the main coastal road from Kassiopi towards Acharavi. There are no turnings and this road is relatively wide compared to the roads around the Nissaki and Kalami area! Continue on this road past the Hydro Polis water park. Acharavi is the next town. Park on the side of the main road for shopping or turn to your right. down one of the many side streets that will take you to the beach. Limited parking is available next to the beach.
Acharavi Corfu Holiday Reviews
Keith. Date of travel: Jun 2006
Had a great holiday in Acharavi, its on the north coast of Corfu and quite unspoilt. More of a family resort - not so much for young people to do, but there are a few bars and clubs. Worth going on some day trips, to Corfu town and boat trips around coast of Corfu. In general loved our holiday to Acharavi, but would probably go to a busier resort next time.

Acharavi is a lovely resort. It is generally unspoilt by British tourism, and there is plenty to do and quite a lot of bars and restaurants. Liberty's is one restaurant which you will pass coming from the Sun Apartments onto the main street. The food is superb! Particularly the seafood. We went back three times in 1 week because it was so good. It is never as busy as it should be (probably because it is off the main street), so it's perfect for a relaxed meal. We also recommend Spiros's bar (called the local bar I think). It is opposite the road leading to the Sun Apartments, and the bar owner is really friendly. We enjoyed many beers with him in a lovely relaxed setting.

We have stayed at the Sun apartments many times and have had thoroughly great holidays thanks to Socratees and the staff. If you are looking for somewhere quiet and away from the nightlife of Acharavi then here could not be a better place. Its only a short walk to the tavernas (like Theritas) and bars (Whispers!!). I have just found out that you can book direct at Sun Apartments.com
