Malia, Crete GREECE - Guide to Malia holidays
Here's a place whose reputation goes before it! If you're coming to Crete to party, you've homed-in on the hot-spot. Holidays in Malia have everything going for them. For a start, the beach is one of the best on the island – a sweep of deep-piled sand that stretches for miles. Sunbeds are strategically placed for you to sleep off the last night's excesses, and for those with energy, there are watersports, jet-skis, ringos and pedaloes to play on.
Behind the beach there's a string of bars and snack bars – so you can re-fuel without losing tanning time. And along the 'strip' leading inland you can virtually name your menu – burgers, Mexican, British, Chinese, Indian and the odd Greek eatery. This single road is also the hub of after-dark activity, crammed with bars, pubs and discos that open at dusk and have no plans to close before dawn. But Malia holidays are much more than their legendary nightlife.
The old sector of the village is actually quite charming – retaining a flavour of Greece against all the odds. And there's a huge variety of choice and cheap holidays in Malia. So if your idea of heaven is full-on, round-the-clock fun, summer holidays to Malia may tick all your boxes. What are you waiting for?
Those who make it to the beach, one of the best on the island, can relax on the fine, golden sand which stretches between three and five kilometres. With plenty of sunbeds, parasols and a host of watersports, there's lots to keep you occupied if lounging in the sun gives you the urge to indulge in some sporty activity. Crowds flock to the endless bars and restaurant that occupy 'the strip' - a road which leads down to the seafront. Once the bars close, you can party the night away in one of the many discos that this resort has to offer. There are plenty of shops in Malia, selling everything from leather goods and catering for those who want a small gift to take home, to those who feel the urge to indulge in some expensive jewellery.
Holidays in Malia - Crete, GREECE
Malia is a famous full-on party resort for the young, on the north coast of Crete, 4 miles east of Hersonissos, 5 miles west of Sissi and 20 miles east of Heraklion airport. Malia appeals to young people and groups looking for a good action-packed beach, unlimited nightlife and inexpensive eating. The resort centred on nightlife, music bars, dancing and late nights. It also has a great beach for lazy afternoons or sporting activities.
There are a huge amount of restaurants ranging from snack bars and fast food to curries and even Greek food! And even more places to drink. The party goes on all night in dozens of music bars, cocktail bars and pubs, and later at discos which stay open until very late. Malia nightlife is largely aimed at the very young. It is particularly lively and with young British visitors in the main summer season. Shopping is another favourite holiday activity with all kinds of shops, also open until late. If you can escape from the fun and the beach there are other popular resorts close by like Stalis and Hersonissos and lots of organised excursions. Frequent buses run along the coast and there are plenty of taxis to get you home. Clearly Malia is not the place to find traditional Crete life or peace and quiet, though there is the original village of Malia just inland to the south where you can find a different atmosphere and some appealing tavernas with Greek food
Information about Malia beach
The beach of Malia is a more than 6 kilometres long beach, one of the most extented beaches of the prefecture and, although affected by the northern winds it is very popylar. The beach is very well organised, offering  good accommodation in several hotels and rooms to let and food and drink in taverns, restaurants and cafes; facilities for swimming and and sunbathing (sunbeds, umbrellas ) and sea sports are also available. Being close to to Heraklion and to Limenas, it gets crowded in summer. And, if you feel like wandering around, the beach of Stalida at the West, the quiet beach of  Potamos and the beaches of Lasithi at the East, are some of the choices you have.
Malia Nightlife
One of the biggest attractions to malia is the nightlife, In fact Malia has probably established its self as the nightlife capital of greece if not the whole of Europe. The many Bars and clubs are pumping out all different styles of music until the early hours of the morning, and for those hardcore party animals that are still not ready to retire to bed yet or for those that have not pulled but determined not to give up... then fear not as there are also 24hr bars that keep the party going.. Malia is definetly the only place to be on crete after dark.
Malia has many different types of bars and clubs to offer. You have big nightclubs, lively bars, Cocktail bars, pool bars to relax and take it easy. Also Definetly worth a mention and a Malia Uncovered favourite was the foam partys in 2003 at the Factory, it was a good laugh. DONT MISS THEM....you have been warned!.
Getting to Malia - Crete
Access from Heraklio is very easy by public buses with frequent service and taxi, as well as by private or rented car and motorbikes. A small port with yatch facilities is available, whereas in summer excursion boats can get you to the islet of Dia every day.
Malia holiday Reviews
MALIA IS THE BEST! - Alexa Hughes. Date of travel: Sep 2006
I recommend going on holiday to Malia if you're after a top resort with plently of hectic nightlife and loads of fun! The resort is all about the nighttime! I spent my birthday there which was also mine and my mates first night (I only went with one other mate), and loved it! I suggest going to the 'Help bar' to get a fishbowl, you have to try them! 'Boozers' is great too, 1 euro a drink! 'Cheeky 1/2 bar' is really fun but one of my favourite places was 'Oasis cocktail bar' and 'Zig Zags'! 'Oasic Cocktail bar' is really nice inside and really fun, whereas 'Zig Zags' is mad!! I also liked the 'Factory' club which is a good laugh, and also 'Premier bar' (karaoke) and 'Orgasmic bar'! literally everywhere but these are the best places to go! I had the most amazing time of my life in Malia and could not have asked for a better holiday! The beach is quite crowded but its a good laugh and really nice! The restaurants are dead cheap for food, and the drink is good value too! We went at the end of the season 8th September to the 15th September, which in my opinion is the perfect time to go because you get loads of good deals on drink as they are trying to get rid of all the booze!! It was also good going then because it is still fairly busy but alot less hectic so you can get in places! If you want a fun holiday - GO ON HOLIDAY TO MALIA! I know that I will be.
Malia is Great - Gillian B. Date of travel: Aug 2006
Malia Crete is not a dive, it's great - it's what you make of it. If you want a nice, sensible, quiet holiday don't go to Malia. But if you want fun, a nice beach and lots of pubs and clubs go to Malia on holiday, it's great. I personally loved it and would definitely go back.
Malia - Shirah and Gillian. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Malia is great if you are really up for drinking and partying. I went in Sept '06 with my best mate and we had a ball.
I would recommend Bananas, Cheeky 1/2, Charlies, Oscars, anywhere really they all make you feel very welcome.
I am going back on 26 June '07 with 2 friends and can't wait. I have promised myself to take it a little more easy on the alcohol, like that will happen!!!
