Holidays in Tingaki - Kos GREECE
Tingaki is on the north coast of Kos, just 7 miles from Kos town. Tingaki is a relatively small laid-back resort with superb stretches of sandy beach. Tingaki enjoys the relative calm of a modest Kos beach resort while making the most of being the nearest resort to lively cosmopolitan Kos Town. Tingaki resort is centred on the main street which is lined with bars, restaurants and tavernas. This street leads to a square and the seafront, which also has some places to sit and eat and drink. It is a growing resort but still no comparison with big tourist resorts like Kos town or
Kardamena.
Tingaki has a selection of restaurants by the beach which are popular with lunchtime visitors and cyclists from Kos Town. Cycling is a great way to get around as the area is very flat. Horse riding is available to explore the countryside. Popular Tingaki excursions include the walk to the saltpans that separate Tangika from Marmari, the nature reserve at Psaladi, the hot springs at Agios Fokas, ancient Asklepeion and the charming old inland village of Pyli.
Information about Tingaki beach
Tingaki has one of the finest and longest beaches on Kos with miles of white sand stretching in both directions on a huge bay. Tingaki is popular with children who can play safely on the wide beach and in the clean clear water that remains shallow for a long way out to sea. This is a great beach for sun worshippers, swimmers and children. Tingaki holidays can enjoy plenty of watersports, with windsurfing being especially popular. There are miles more beach to enjoy at the neighbouring resort of Marmari.
Facing north, the long, deep and sandy beach gets its fair share of windy weather so windsurfing is popular. In the most popular part of the beach there are enormous numbers of sun beds for visitors. The beach is narrow in places but made up of good white sand backed by low dunes and you can wade out a good way offshore, making it good for children. Sand improves the further west you go until you reach the salt pans where there are flat sands and shallow seas. There is a nude beach here if you wade past the outfall from the salt lake. Further west the land turns to a marsh that can stay wet well into June, making this an ideal stopping off point for migratory birds, tame terrapins and zillions of mosquitoes. Beware pitching too near the shore - passing cruise liners can send waves crashing in and only those near the dunes will survive the wash.
Getting to Tingaki - Kos
Getting to Tingaki is very easy specially during the summer season (beginning of May till the end of October). There are frequent charter flights to Kos from most European countries and Kos airport is only 1 miles away, less than ten minutes by taxi - that's if you haven't booked a package holiday to Tingaki. From mainland Greece you can get to the island either by plain or ferry. Every day there are three flights from / to Athens airport by Olympic Airlines and another three by Aegean Airlines. From Piraeus port there's at least one big ferryboat liner daily to
Kos island and other Dodecanese islands. The port of the island is located in Kos town which is also the capital, about twenty five minutes away by taxi and a bit longer by bus.
Tingaki Kos holiday Reviews
Tingaki - The Barber Family. Date of travel: Oct 2006
Tingaki town was okay even though lots of places were closing as it was their last week of the season. Can strongly recommend the Grande Salle Greek Kitchen (on the main road in the town) excellent food, friendly helpful staff, very reasonable prices. Didn't think much of the beach. Lots of seaweed, fag ends and bottle tops in the sand so only went their once as kids prefered the pool. Hired a car from Alpha cars ( very cheap) and explored the island. Didn't think much of Kardemena but the ruins in Kos town are worth a visit as is the thermal springs (just watch you don't go off the end of the road as there is no warning that the road just stops). Would definately go back to this again as all the family enjoyed it.
My best holiday - Izzie. Date of travel: Jul 2005
Tingaki in Kos - Transfer time aprox 60mins, parts of the beach are quite shinglie. Laid back nightlife with cafe bars and taverners, best to hire a car or scooters, as the island has plenty to offer and see, kos town is only a 20 min drive. A must is to visit Bubble Beach. You can also go on a day trip to Turkey, personally this was one of the best holidays I've had. I met some great people and saw most the island.
